Chemotherapy is using special medicines to stop cancer cell growth.

Since cancer cells grow and divide faster than ordinary cells, chemotherapy works by stopping the cells from dividing. This way, Chemotherapy helps reduce and kill cancer cells.

The objectives of chemotherapy 

The objectives of chemotherapy could be either cure of cancer or prevention of further spread or damage to the body. At times, chemotherapy is also given to make sure the cancer doesn't come back after surgery.

Chemotherapy plan 

One or different medicines are given together in chemotherapy. An oncologist has the training to choose and decide on which chemotherapy medicines to choose for certain diseases and certain patients. 

Where is chemotherapy given? 

+Chemotherapy is usually given in the ward - or in the day care department. A few sorts of chemotherapy are given by mouth, and these can be taken at home. Some chemotherapy injections need to be given over few hours and some over few days.  

How long is Chemotherapy given ? 

Chemotherapy is frequently given for a particular time frame, like a half year or a year. Some chemotherapy are given only during radiotherapy treatment. This depends on the type of cancer and the intent of treatment.  

How hard are the side effects of chemotherapy ?

The side effects of chemotherapy depend on the medicine that is given, some can cause hair-loss some do not. Some medicines can cause vomiting and less desire to eat. All these side effects can be managed by the oncologist. Keeping in touch with the oncologist during the treatment and after it, can help the patient receive the chemotherapy treatment without much problems.
