What is Cancer ?

Cancer is a diagnosis which no one wants to have. But many people will have this diagnosis in their lifetime. If found out and treated early, many cancers are cured.

Cancer is an illness wherein body's cells develop wildly and spread to different parts of the body, damaging the organs and leading to person's death.

Cancer can occur in any parts of the human body. Ordinarily, human cells develop and increase (through an interaction called cell division) to make new cells as the body needs them. At the point when cells become old, new cells are created to have their spot.

Once in a while this organized cycle can't function well, and 'cancer cell' are formed which increase when they shouldn't. These cells create lumps and wounds which can be dangerous.

These ulcers and growths spread into close by tissues and can go to far off places in the body flowing in the blood to make cancers (called metastasis).

These cancers destruct the organs they reach. If they reach the lungs, they make breathing harder; if they reach the bones, they destroy the bones causing pain and fracture and if they reach the liver - can cause jaundice.

For cure of cancer - surgery to take out the part is important. But for that Cancer should be detected when it is small in size.

Similar to Surgery, radiotherapy is a modern technique where high dose of radiation (xrays) are targeted to the cancer and it kills it.

Chemotherapy is group of medicines when given to the patient, the cancer reduces in size and many times, cures the cancer.

All these treatments are available at Kathmandu Cancer Center, Tathali, Nala Road, Bhaktapur, Nepal.
